Satoyama Near Lake Biwa: Community Work

Posted by

Living in satoyama, you belong to a residents’ association in your neighborhood and there are a lot of work to do throughout the year. This year I have been selected to be a  running committee member of the local community center. We have to help when the community center holds events . Today we organized a children’s picnic at Hino River where we released some chars so that the kids could catch them. Our job today was to make Yakisoba, fried noodles for the children.

Wow, it was hot standing in front of the grill in this scorching weather. It was 37 degrees centigrade today just like all other days in the last 7 days or so. We have had this heat wave over a week now.

But I enjoyed it, it was a great opportunity to get to know the locals. Since my son started going to the local elementary school this year, I am a member of PTA, as well, so I am getting to know the locals more and more.

I felt a new wave of localization at an open air market in Hino town
