Yesterday I received an interesting newsletter from Junpei Soma who is the developer of a web system called reserve stock, which has a million users. In the newsletter, he said there are people who earn 3000 dollars a month and feel happy and satisfied, and there are people who earn 10000 dollars a month but don’t feel happy and satisfied.
He said that the former was a group of people who live in the countryside and lead a semi-self-sufficient life, which helps cut down the cost of living, which in turn enables a comfortable life. The latter was a group of people who want to earn 100000 dollars a month and are frustrated because they haven’t reached their goal yet.
He also said that the former group has a clear vision of what success means to them, but the latter group doesn’t have a clear vision and just chasing after the numbers which are often suggested by success gurus.
He said that if you don’t have a clear vision of what success means to you, you’ll never be successful even if you manage to earn a lot of money.
It was interesting because it was precisely the point I am making in my book Zen and a Way of Sustainable Prosperity. Even the number was the same. There is an episode in the book where I changed my goal to earn 10000 dollars a month to 3000 dollars a month.
Maybe he read one of my blog posts or newsletters-haha.
I have written a newsletter about earning 3000 dollars a month and living comfortably in the countryside before.
Yes, the definition of success is crucial. Most people have a stereotyped image of success and don’t know exactly what they want.
What is the definition of success?
I discuss it in Chapter 5 of the book.
Chapter 5: The 7 Elements of Sustainable Prosperity.
