Japanese Jogging goes viral, surpassing Japanese Walking

A video titled “This Japanese Jogging Technique Will Make You 10 Years Younger” has become a viral hit, surpassing “NEW Japanese Walking Technique 4x Better Than 10,000 Steps.” which I uploaded about a month ago. While both currently have 23K views, it’s only a matter of time before “This Japanese Jogging Technique…” reaches 24K. The performance multiplier, a metric that shows how successful a video is compared to the channel’s average, is 52x, which is higher than the 46x of the Japanese Walking video. This means the videos are performing 52 and 46 times better than my channel’s average video, respectively.

23,000 views isn’t an incredibly high number in general, but since my channel’s average is between 300 and 500 views, it’s a huge success for me. It’s the highest-performing video in the last year. While I have had videos with 99,000, 80,000, and 50,000 views in the past, my channel has been struggling recently, so this feels like my first viral video in a long time.

What’s interesting about this isn’t just that the video went viral. The jogging method itself, the Japanese Jogging Technique, might become a trend. This means the jogging method I developed might start to become popular.

Originally, the Japanese Walking Technique was trending. This refers to Interval Walking Training (IWT), which was developed at Shinshu University. The number of people practicing this Japanese walking method is growing worldwide. This trend was initially sparked by a viral hit on TikTok, which then spread to YouTube. As a result, many people started uploading similar videos using the keywords “Japanese Walking” or “Japanese Walking Technique,” creating a lot of copies.

I noticed this boom a few months after it began, which is usually too late. However, I had already covered IWT a year before in a video titled “Forget 4×4! This Workout from Nagano May Be BETTER for Over 60s,” so I was familiar with the topic. I decided to re-create the video, and that’s how I made “NEW Japanese Walking Technique 4x Better Than 10,000 Steps.” The title was a nod to a video, “NEW Japanese Walking Technique 2x Better Than 10,000 Steps,” which had a 36x performance multiplier. Of course, the content itself was my original work.

It was a hit.

I continued to make related videos, but only the first one went viral. Just as I was considering moving on to another topic, I thought I’d introduce my personal aerobic exercise method as a final video on the subject. I think IWT is an excellent exercise, especially for people over 60, which is why I kept introducing it. But what about myself? I don’t practice it. I know a more optimal method. It’s the best aerobic exercise I know of, as it reliably increases butyrate-producing bacteria, activates autophagy at a level comparable to a 72-hour fast, and has even greater effects on muscle and bone. It’s even better than high-intensity interval training.

It’s a combination of Zone 2 jogging and Interval Walking Training. My routine is 5 kilometers in total, which takes about 45 minutes, and I do it three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The first 2.5 kilometers are a steady Zone 2 jog. Zone 2 is 60% to 70% of your maximum heart rate, a level where you can have a conversation, but with some effort. It’s not easy, and you’d rather not talk, but it’s possible.

The last 2.5 kilometers are walking and jogging intervals. I alternate between a Zone 1 level walk and a Zone 2 level jog for about 3 minutes each.

The reason I do a 60-minute session once a week (about 7 kilometers for me) is because it’s said to activate autophagy at a level similar to a 72-hour fast.

I divide the workout into a steady jog and an interval jog because I can get the benefits of both.

I also include 100 to 200 meters of backward jogging and backward walking. This is said to reduce the burden on your knees and is also a good balance-training exercise.

I call it the Japanese Jogging Technique because it applies the principles of Interval Walking Training.

I thoroughly refined the content and made the video well.

And it was a success.

I’m thrilled that the performance multiplier went up to 52x. The number of comments is also higher than on my Japanese Walking videos, which may have contributed. Just as I referenced a 36x video, someone might copy my video and make a similar one. They will probably copy the title, too. But if they do, they’ll have to refer to this method, and by extension, my name, just as videos about Japanese walking all mention IWT (Interval Walking Training) developed by Shinshu University.

Of course, I don’t think it will become as widespread as IWT because it’s a more complex method. But because the benefits are so significant, it will likely spread among a core group of people. It’s a method I reached after years of researching various elements, and I haven’t found anything better. If I had, I’d be doing it.

It’s enough for it to spread within a core group. The Japanese Jogging Technique will become the entry point, and the Ikigai Bio-Hacking philosophy itself will spread.
